Historic Crab Orchard Museum

Historic Crab Orchard Museum is delighted to welcome the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street Crossroads Exhibition to Southwestern Virginia. The people of our region are experiencing the changes in rural America first hand and we are thrilled to share this exhibition with them. Many thanks to the Smithsonian and the Virginia Association of Museums for allowing us this opportunity.
Tazewell County, where the museum is located, and the surrounding counties in both Virginia and West Virginia have faced the highs and lows of rural life for the past 200 years. The industries that support our population, most prominently agriculture and mining, but including many others, have changed dramatically during that time and our communities reflect those impacts.
The museum is partnering with other local organizations and institutions to expand on the themes of the exhibition with programs and events throughout the duration of the show. We hope that Crossroads will inspire all who visit to not only remember our past, but to also look forward with fresh hope and new ideas for the future.
